How to Get to Teotihuacán

Teotihuacán is one of the major landmarks and touristic destinations in Mexico and one of the 10 archeological zones with most importance.

This archeological zone is a must do when visiting Mexico City, and therefore we share with you how to get to Teotihuacán.

Teotihuacán’s Location

Get to Teotihuacán with the Metro and Public Transformation

If you want to know how to arrive to Teotihuacán from Mexico City, here is what you have to do:

Your main objective should be: Getting to the Central Terminal of North Buses (Terminal Central de Autobuses Norte.) From there you want to follow this directions on how to get there on “bus.”

To arrive to the Central Bus Station with public transportation the easiest thing is to use the Metro in Mexico City.

You will have to take the yellow line towards the Politécnico. You should get down on station “Autobuses del Norte” which comes after station “La Raza”, and from there you can take the bus towards Teotihuacán.

If you’re in Mexico City you probably won’t have a hard time finding a Metro station close by. Just remember your first goal is getting to station “Autobuses del Norte”.

Get there through bus

This is the cheapest way to get to Teotihuacán.

It does not matter if it is on taxi, uber or metro, you have to get to “Central de Autobuses del Norte”. There you’ll find a bus line that will take you directly to the archeological zone, called “Autobuses Teotihuacán.”

Pay Attention! This bus leaves every 15 minutes starting at 6AM and ending at 10PM.

The bus has 3 stops:

  1. Pueblo de San Juan Teotihuacán: Do Not Get Down Here
  2. Puerta 1 at the Archeological Zone: Can Get Down Here
  3. Puerta 2 at the Archeological Zone: Can Get Down Here

The time from Terminal Central Norte to the archeological zone is approximately 1 hour.

The ticket costs $52 pesos one way.

On your way back to Mexico City, the trip is exactly the same. The bus leaves every 15 minutes from 6AM to 10PM and the bus leaves from Puerta 1,2 and 3 from the archeological zone.

Important! Even though taking the bus is the cheapest option it can also be dangerous, since it is know to be a path were robberies happen.

Get there with a Tour

The most comfortable, easy and secure way to get to Teotihuacán is with a tour.

How to get to Teotihuacán by car

From Mexico City, the only thing you have to do is take the highway to Pachuca and when you’ve paid the toll in Ecatepec, continue through the Teotihuacán division until you arrive to Puerta 1.

If you type the address above or just “Pirámide del Sol” your gps will save you the trouble. If you type Teotihuacán it might send you to the town rather than the archeological zone, so be careful.
