This time, I will talk about the best places in Mexico City that simply are iconic and highly recognized world wide.

In other sites you’ll probably find huge lists on what to do in Mexico City. Lists that are so long instead of helping, make your visit more confusing and hard to plan.

Here I will talk about the must do’s of the city.


Teotihuacan México

This is one of the main and most important places in the whole country and should be one of your priorities. You have to find time to visit here, no excuses.

The truth is that this archeological zone is in Mexico State; however, the best and easiest way to enjoy your overall visit is staying somewhere in Mexico City and allowing one day to visit Teotihuacán.

Coyoacán and Frida Kahlo Museum

Coyoacán is another area to get to know in Mexico. It’s a place that will bring you into the bohemian scene of Mexico City, the most important and representative landmark of Coyoacán is Frida Kahlo’s House . Frida is a major historical figure, who has become an important feminist symbol.

Touring Coyoacán is a great experience where you’ll find original handcrafts and works of art at the famous market and try unique dishes like chapulines (grasshopers) and delicious traditional food. We recommend you eat at the Coyoacán market.

Historic District and the Zócalo

In my opinion, in second place after the Teotihuacán Pyramids, your second destination has to be the historic district and the Zócalo if you’re planning to visit the main landmarks in Mexico City.

Impossible getting to know everything in this area, but the one sure thing is that the place is fantastic.

👁 Tip: Saturdays and Sundays are the best days to visit the Historic District but they are also the busiest days.

The Xochimilco Trajineras

The Trajineras in Xochimilco are simply a unique experience that you won’t find anywhere else in the world. (Except for the Cancun experience that tried to replicate it.)

Here you will be able to enjoy music and Mexican food while on board of a traditional trajinera.
